2026 Q3 Ruby Meetup: Open Internet and Tanks

on 08 Oct 2026

In this installment of the Slovene Ruby meetup, organized as usual by Krištof Črnivec at the Computer History Museum, we gathered in a surprisingly large number and hosted two prepared presentations.

In the first talk Lio Novelli, co-author of the techno-critical radio show Tehno klistir, familiarized us with the inner workings of the NGI0 initiative, a joint not-for-profit effort by a coalition of organisations that supports the development of technology commons as building blocks for the Next Generation Internet initiative. After presenting some info on the involved organizations and processes, he also offered his guidance on acquiring funding through the initiative, and encouraged everyone to participate in making the internet a more open, free, and secure space.

In the second talk we inevitably turned to the topic of AI development, joined by the long-time Slovene Ruby Meetup star Oto Brglez, who gave us an in-depth presentation on his approaches to agentic development, by explaining how he developed his incredibly fun multi-platform tank shooter bongbong.io. He took us from some of the basics of game development, language choice with AI agents in mind (in this case Rust), and the process of building up a development and CI stack, where agents can basically work on their own, and he can move into the role of a product manager.

His last thoughts were about the importance of human touch in regards to games, software, and product development in general in the times where producing software has become fast and cheap.

The talk sparked a lively, if somewhat somber debate, where we shared our worries, predictions, and coping mechanisms for dealing with the turbulent and exciting present and future of software development. This continued in a nearby bar, and when we got hungry, at a pub a bit further away.
